I very much enjoyed your history lesson on the origins of Advaita, which were finally illuminating to me in that I had always wondered why Shankara seemed to disparage buddhism at every turn and yet often preached the exact same philosophies using alternate terminologies. Having little interest in researching the minutiae of the Vedantic philosophies I left these thoughts alone, but your treatise explained everything quite well, and revealed much to me in regards to my suspicions.

However I still have some questions about the intersection of Advaita with the tradition of the Avadhuta and the Turiyatitavadhuta Upanishad. It seems highly incongruent, and yet perhaps cohesive with the emerging cult of the Siddhas and Mahasiddhas which would go on to originate Vajrayana buddhism and transplant it into Tibet. This thread which seems to bind tantrikas and kapalikas and kaulas and naths and so forth is something I have always found quite fascinating - especially as it seems to be regarded as viable sadhana even in its most "shocking" and "alternative" manifestations which are "difficult" (to say the least) to present in their entirety in the modern era. It also seems that such traditions may have woven in and out of the so-called vamamarga, or even attempted to distance themselves from such considerations entirely, while yet retaining quite a few of the same ritualistic practices and symbols.

I wanted to thank you for this blog. It's well needed antagonism to belief systems that usually get a free pass on criticism. I had an encounter with a Tibetan guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, and am still sorting out the cognitive dissonance of beneficial teachings served up (though incompletely) in a toxic and abusive vessel.

If one wants to vet a guru, meet the students. The guru is an expert at their game, but the students betray the facade. What brought me here was an interest in Mooji. I had watched a few youtube videos, but stopped when I saw his entourage. Their expressions and body language gave it away. Grotesquely pious and self-indulgent to an extreme.

Has anyone clicked SCHEDULE on Mark Koppikar home page? He's got a price list for his forthcoming jamboree in Tiru, a cool 890 quid for a few days of brain screwing. There's also (no kidding) an early bird discount, as well as a whole range of reduced rates for Indians, South Africans etc etc ... And yes he is a glutton of some repute, he states (in the paragraph before the tariff list) that Tiruvannamalai offers an exquisite cuisine and "EVERY ONE CAN EAT AS HE WISHES!" What do you reckon Kevji? Should this porcupine get the spruiker's job at a Chottiwalla munchery like they have in North India?
